Independent studies and internships give you the chance to apply what you learn in the classroom to real-world settings. These hands-on experiences help you build problem-solving skills, conduct cutting-edge research, and make professional connections with industry and community partners.
Internships
Students are responsible for finding internships that align with their major/concentration and enrolling in one or more of the courses below.

Enrollment Process
- Identify an instructor of record and an internship.
- Complete the Animal Science Independent Study and Internship Form: This outlines internship expectations and serves as your learning contract.
- Submit the Registrar’s Enrollment Change Form: This enrolls you in the course (no permission code needed).
Internships can be paid, but payment and course credit are independent. Consult your academic advisor for help with internship options and course enrollment.
Independent Study and Research
At an R1 research university like UConn, our students have the opportunity to work closely with faculty to make discoveries in the lab, field, farm, or wherever else their interests take them.
